What is Montessori?

The Montessori Method

Montessori is a method of education for children from birth to adulthood. The method has been developed by the Italian physician and educator Dr. Maria Montessori. It is a result of more than fifty years of scientific observation of the human being from birth to maturity.

Montessori education is based on the fact that children have an innate ability to learn and that when supported by an appropriate environment and educator, they are guided through their developmental needs to reach their full potential.

The Prepared Environment

The Montessori classroom is a well designed and prepared environment for a specific age group. The Montessori materials are beautifully handcrafted and are displayed on child height open shelves, allowing children to be independent and to direct their own learning with the guidance of the trained Montessori teacher.

The Montessori classroom is not merely a place for individual learning. It is a vibrant community of children, where the child learns to interact socially in a variety of ways.

The Montessori Educator

The AMI accredits training centres throughout the world. These centers offer AMI diploma courses that are internationally recognised for their high standard and authenticity.

A Montessori classroom typically has a trained Montessori teacher, known as a Director or Directress, supported by a Montessori assistant. The teacher provides a link between the child and the prepared environment, introducing the child to each piece of equipment when he or she is ready in a precise, clear and enticing way.

Montessori Parenting

The Egyptian culture is heavily based on the warmth of emotions found at home within the family. Driven by the need for these emotions, we tend to get married and have children as early as possible; and we often underestimate the importance of parent education.

Understanding the basics of the Montessori philosophy allows you to understand and answer the needs of your child, which makes the big difference. At Montessori Foundation of Egypt, we are preparing to offer a range of Montessori parenting workshops and courses that are tailored to fulfill the needs of Egyptian parents and families.
